Mythical Drabbles: ‘Sweet Tooth’ by Dawn DeBraal

Today’s tempting drabble is by the very lovely Dawn Debraal! It’s great to have her join our Insignia Drabbles series.

Sweet Tooth

Dawn DeBraal

Nur hovered in the back of the cave. She had heard of the creature Buto Ijo. If a child misbehaved, he would come and whisk them away. If she did not do his bidding, Buto Ijo would eat her. Faced with the decision to become enslaved or perish, Nur wished she hadn’t taken the wrapped nagsari while her mother wasn’t looking. She felt the sweet cake in her pocket.

The green monster with jagged teeth approached her. Nur offered the cake to him. Curious, he snatched it from her hand. While he was eating her stolen cake, Nur stole away.

Dawn DeBraal lives in rural Wisconsin with her husband Red, two rescue dogs and a stray cat. She has discovered her love of telling a good story, can also be written. She is fast approaching 300 stories, drabbles and poems in online magazines and anthologies.
